Leadership on the Golf Course
This past spring the Parish golf team made their way down to Fort Hood for the state golf tournament. As we had done the year before, we spent a few nights in a hotel where the guys shared rooms before each day out on the course. The only problem with this situation was that Coach Self was in a room on the floor below us and she could only tell us what time we should be in bed by. Even though all you could really do was talk and watch tv, we ended up staying up way to late the year earlier and were not completely awake when we got to the course. Luckily there had been a delay, but I knew we would not get that lucky again so that night I told the guys to go to bed not because I was tired, but I knew we could compete better if we were able to go to bed much earlier than the year previous. To make sure I got my point across, I reminded the team constantly that the bigger goal was to win a state championship and that we could watch tv for numerous hours once we finished our round. I know the team probably didn't want to go bed so early, but the idea of getting an edge to win state was all that they needed and we were all asleep by ten. Even though we didn't play as well as we would have liked to, the team was ready and focused when we got to the golf course. Hopefully when we bring that same mentality this year, we will b able to bring home a state championship with it
