Goleman Quote Reflection

I believe that Goleman was trying to tell us that emotional leadership is just as important, maybe even more important as intellect while in a position of leadership. Emotional intelligence is when someone has an understanding of their emotions and is self-aware f how they will react to different situations. This is so important in the workplace because leaders with emotional leadership are able to react better to hard times and can keep a consistent attitude, even when they are frustrated or bothered. Goleman also tries to get out the point that people can still be leaders with just intellect because there are plenty out there, but to be at the top of a company, you need to have emotional leadership to be successful. One example of just an intellectual leader would be someone who just goes through the motions, doesn't consider moral of the company as important, and isn't aware of how his actions affect others. A leader with emotional leadership is like a captain of a football team. He knows when to inspire his players and get them motivated, he can always get the most out of his players by setting the bar high, and he always knows when to help a teammate out when they are struggling. This is why Goleman believes that emotional leadership is so important.

  1. Will, the MB and Goleman posts are both outstanding. You really capture the essence of what we discussed while maintaining your voice. They are both just top notch. We have to look at you VT. It is not showing here because we have to make it public accessible. We can do that in class.

    Nice work!
