The Next Step In My Leadership Journey

In the next 6 to 12 months, I hope I have more oppurtunities to be in a leadership role, wheter it be through the school or working for a company. Even though that may not happen, I think one thing I can work on is making sure that my credibility is established when I go to college. Everything I have done in high school really means nothing now considering I'm going to know only a few kids this upcoming school year. Some of the things I think I'm going to take away from the class are emotional intelligence and learning how when to lead or when to follow. Emotional intelligence is something that doesn't seem that important, but has a deep impact on my ability as a leader. Lastly, even though it's been a leadership class, I need to know when I need to show my leadership skills or when to be a follower. Hopefully I will be able to accomplish these few things in the next year.

Leadership Class Group Task

My leadership class at Parish Episcopal School was assigned a task to find out whether our school has a trash problem. After looking through the campus, taking pictures, and taking surveys from students and teachers, my group decided there was an issue that needed to be corrected. Some of the concepts that are group has used are credibility, leading and following, and emotional intellgience. Credibility has been a major key to our groups success because all people in our group had to do work to finish this project. If someone in our group was not credible, then this project would have never been close to finished by the due date. Leading and follow was another major part because even though this uis a leadership class, not everyone could lead. We choose the best man for the job who would keep us on task and everyone else followed what he thought was best for the group. Lastly emotional intelligence was important because with all the turns this project has taken, everyone has had to keep a cool head for this project to stay on track. Even though we have had mix ups, snow days, and other things that have messed up our projects, we have kept cool heads which has helped us achieve our goal.

Resonant Leadership

For the past few weeks are class has worked on a project to find out if our school, Parish Episcopal, has a trash problem and if so, how we can fix it. This group project has had its road bumps, but I feel like it has brought me to a better understanding of resonant leadership. If I was advising someone on how to be a resonant leader, the first thing I would say is always be ready for the unexpected. Just as our project has had its twist and turns, every leader runs into issues along the way while leading others. If someone is ready for the unexpected, emotions are able to stay even level and the group can maintain function throughout the situation. The other thing I would advise them on might be obvious, but can not be said enough, patience. Patience is what seperates good leaders from great and by showing patience, people who are following will not be strained or scared of making you upset in the future because that usually leads to even more bad work. To achieve this goal takes time unfortunatley, but there are many ways to achieve the emotional level required to be a resonant leader. One way an individual can achieve this goal is if they put themselves in positions of leadership. Another way is to look how an individual treats his friends when in a bad mood, usually this is a telling sign of what is to come. Lastly, an individual can put himself in positions where patience is required. By doing these things, a person can better prepare himself to be a resonant leader in the future.
